Aug 5th, 2008 - Google vs OVH
On a warm rare windless afternoon, Team Google got off to a slow start in the first inning, but eventually they got the bats to come out and scored 4 runs in the fifth inning. We had some good fielding by Tyler making a great throw to Melissa at second to get a runner out and save a run. Tim was pitching well and Justin had one of the best hits of the season that got him to third base.

July 30th, 2008 - Napa vs Google
We got to a late start to this game, but we eventually got the game started and made it 3 1/2 innings. Our hitting started off well, scoring 3 runs in the first inning but then slowed down in the second. We were on a roll in the fourth inning, scoring 2 runs with 2 on and no outs, but the game was called due to the next game needing to take the field. Another loss unfortunately but we had some great fielding by Lisa and Kip made some good plays in the outfield.

July 23rd, 2008 - Google vs Sluggers
Another windy game causing our pitchers to struggle to hit the strike zone target. Also frustrating was the fact that for being called "Sluggers" the other team didn't want to hit. Thanks to Kip and Chavez for hanging in there on the pitching and the rest of the team for not falling asleep.
When the Sluggers did hit we had a couple of good catches in the outfield by Tyler and I stopped and hard hit coming near first and threw to Liz for an out. I think our fielding this year has definitely improved.
We had enough women to play with Christie back and Yvonne. For a few minutes, I thought we'd actually not have enough guys.
Our official photographer was on vacation so no photos from this game.
Players: David Chavez, Shaun Siriwatanarong, Tyler Richardson, Israel Juras, Justin Shulman, Kip Jansen, Bryan Entze, Heidi Kumm, Yvonne Litaker, Lisa Perry, Liz Mendez, Christie Postema

July 15th, 2008 - Google vs GAA
We went from a surplus of women two games ago to a dearth of them for this game, which led to us having to forfeit this game. Injuries and some late season flu have reduced our rost of available female team members.
We did play out the game though as a scrimmage. Our fielding continued to be good, Kip getting several good plays--catching pop flys, throw outs at first and a smart play of tagging a runner out at 2nd. Tim, Tyler and Chavez made some nice pop fly catches. Our catcher Denise made an out by catching a pop foul using a right-handed glove (she's left handed).
Update on Shaun, which in the last game had met up with the back fence chasing a fly ball. Looks like at least a very bad sprain with some greenstick fractures to a couple of bones.
Players: David Chavez, Shaun Siriwatanarong, Nikki Burnett, Tyler Richardson, Israel Juras, Justin Shulman, Kip Jansen, Bryan Entze, Heidi Kumm, Tim Martin

July 9th, 2008 - Gorge Urology vs Google
On a hot and blustry late afternoon, Google faced the Gorge Urology team. We started the game short 1 women, but we snagged Denise Tweet out of the bleachers part way thru the game to help us out.
First inning we started out a bit shaky, letting them get 3 runs. We replied with 1 run. Second inning they scored 4 more runs against us and we were pretty much 3 up 3 down. Starting in the 3rd inning we kept Gorge Urology scoreless for the next 4 innings with some good fielding and pitching. Tim got at least 3 strikeouts. Heidi snagged a fly ball for an out in center field. And we kept hits to just singles. Hitting wise we scored 3 runs in the 3rd inning, 2 in the 5, and tied things up in the 7th win 1 run.
We had a chance to win going into the 7th but got a bit nervous and rushed a couple of plays that allowed for some runs to get on and then get home. We responded with 1 run but in the end the score was 12 to 8.
We started off playing with only 9 players so we were taking an out for having 2 guys bat back to back. Denise Tweet came in from the bleachers to help us out. Also, Shaun was chasing a deep fly ball near the home run fence and it "attacked him." No major cuts but it looks like at least a bad sprain.
Players: David Chavez, Martha Dell, Christian Dell, Shaun Siriwatanarong, Nikki Burnett, Tyler Richardson, Israel Juras, Justin Shulman, Kip Jansen, Bryan Entze, Heidi Kumm, Tim Martin, Melissa Hagel, Lisa Perry, Denise Tweet

July 2nd, 2008 - Bobby's Team vs Google
We won!! Yup have now doubled the number of wins compared to last season. I thought we might be short on the number of women needed due to injuries, but we actually ended up with seven. Thanks to Justin's connections.
Our hitting improved since last game. Chavez dropped several hits into the empty spots in center field. Tyler continued to hit well and Martha solidly hit. Even the coach got some hits in, leading by example...of what not to do--hitting short infield grounders that were easy outs at first.
Fielding was also better. Kip dug a popup out. Martha snagged a pop to center field. Heidi grabbed a line drive at 3rd. We even got a couple double-plays in. We even got a strike out.
Unfortunately all of that didn't matter as we had already won due to the other team's forfeit for not having enough people. We shared some of our players and the ump stayed on and we had a practice game.

June 24th, 2008 - Google vs Nelson's Tires
The wind was calmer last night, but it still didn't help us. We lost 21-1. Our fielding slipped a bit and our batting was sub par as well.
The good news is a we had a new pitcher step up while Tim is out on vacation, Kip Jansen. Kip pitched well the entire game. We were heading into the game one lady short, but Liz Mendez came in to save us and we were able to field a full team. Shaun and Christian continued to make good catches in the outfield for us.
Danielle is moving on for the summer. We really appreciate her playing with us. She drove in the winning run in our first game and knocked in our one run in the second game.

June 17th, 2008 - Affordable Homes vs Google
A win wasn't in the wind for the Google Softball team last night. We lost to Affordable Homes 18-1. Windy conditions made pitching difficult and seemed to favor the other team. Whenever we were up to bat the wind would die down. Our fielding continued to do well with Shaun making a couple of good running fly ball catches, and a nice David to Melissa to Israel double play. Danielle knocked in our single run.

June 10th, 2008 - Amerities vs Google
On a cool and windy late afternoon the Google softball team had there first game of the 2008 season versus Amerities. This year the only scrambling was the coach running back to the datacenter to grab the scorebook. No scrambling to find enough women to field a team. We were able to field a full team of 10.
The team jelled very quickly. First inning we held them scoreless. Nikki caught a line drive pop at 3rd. Chavez scored the first inning to put us ahead 1 - 0. 2nd inning Amerities came on strong scoring 5 runs, but we held in there. We were only able to respond with one run. 3rd inning we kept them to just 1 run with some good fielding by Chavez at short-stop and Tyler in the outfield. We responded with 5 runs with nice hits by Joe and Shaun to tie things up again. 4th inning Amerities jumped ahead again scoring 3 runs and we didn't score any. But then the next 3 inning we held them scoreless with continued fielding efforts and added another run. Going into the bottom of the 7th inning we were behind 8 to 9. Christie led off the batting and hit a solid single to get on base. Tim followed up with a single that got Christie to 3rd. So we had runners at 1st and 3rd. Nikki was next up. She hit toward the pitcher who tried to get Christie out going into home, but she made it home, Nikki made it to 1st and Tim made it to 3rd. Next batter up fly'd out. Then Danilelle hit solidly to short center field. Nikki was forced out by the throw to 2nd base but Amerities fumbled the throw to first and Tim was able to score the winning run.
So yes, we won our first game. Good job team!
